What was a slow Podiatry job market prior to the Coronavirus has now moved to a crawl. Nobody is hiring Podiatrists. I have written about how Podiatrists that are graduating in the next two years are basically going to be a lost generation of a Podiatrists.
But now the true destruction of the Podiatric job market is being laid bare. It would not be an exaggeration to say that hospitals will not hire Podiatrists in the United States for the next five years. Forget about multi speciality groups. They are not hiring Podiatrists since they are struggling to survive. The same goes for large Podiatry groups. Some New grads are having their job offers rescinded. If Podiatry Practices are laying off half of their staff, do you think they are going to hire other Podiatrists? I got bad news for you.
When will the Podiatry job market recover from the COVID-19 Pandemic?
This is almost impossible to guess at. There was already a structural bubble present and now it is even worse. A large part of the recovery will be dependent on if insurance companies change how Podiatrists are reimbursed due to the Coronavirus, which is impossible to say at this time. All we can say for certain is the Podiatry job market has been decimated and there is nothing the APMA or ACFAS can do about it.
