The APMA Board of Trustees sends its sincere congratulations on the 30th anniversary of PM News. Dr. Block, your contributions to the profession over the past three decades cannot be overstated. Thank you for creating a forum that has informed, energized, and advanced podiatric medicine and surgery. We look forward to many more years of excellence!

The APMA THANKS BLOCK FOR HIS COLLUSION WITH THEM! No kidding. They thank him for ‘advancing’ podiatry. Uh? What advance? Anyone’s license change significantly? Anyone able to treat anything systemic? A pod friend of mine needed a knee injection. No pod could do it BUT A GIRL P.A. DID! Who’s really the DOCTOR? Come on already. Admit it. Podiatry has fallen behind P.A.’s. Enough of this “surgery” BS. Everyone knows MOST PODS DO MOSTLY MINOR PROCEDURES and even those rarely are more than 20% of your foot business, Those Charcot Reconstructions and ankle implants are few a far between and… Read more »

My personal opinions: Let us think logically. What is a podiatrist? A podiatrist is a doctor podiatrist. A podiatrist can also be a podiatrist doctor. So long as the term podiatrist is being used this clarifies to the public that a doctor is not treating them but a podiatrist doctor or a doctor podiatrist is treating them. The word podiatrist clarifies a limited licensed practitioner. The word podiatrist also has the benefit of being able to join the APMA and state societies. The doctor who is not a podiatrist cannot do so. Please consider spending your money to qualify to… Read more »

Brother Robert, How many MDs qualify for membership in the great APMA and the wonderful state societies? Giving money to these organizations is a wonderful thing to do. An MD has to take that first step and pay money to podiatric medical school and get accepted. Perhaps then they can join as. Podiatric medical student. Afterwards they have to pass examinations and get licensed as a DPM. Then they can use money to qualify to continue membership in the awesome APMA. In this very short and stressful life, we need to help each other as brothers. Think of all the… Read more »

Robert, Most podiatrists understand that conditions such as charcot feet are affected by an autonomic nervous system. They then call the patients primary to rule out other diseases of the autonomic nervous system such as a cardiologist to rule out diseases of the heart. Podiatrists are provided with an opportunity in podiatry practice to work with internists, contacting them and continue learning every day. Podiatrists have a wonderful opportunity to learn about treatment all the systemic conditions they cannot treat from a patients internist. Remember podiatrists unlike an MD have that opportunity to spend money to qualify for membership in… Read more »

Robert, Podiatry post is a wonderful publication because it lets me post my opinions on why everyone should pay your money to qualify to join the APMA and state societies. It does not matter if state societies I feel are unsuccessful in increasing my scope. The importance is the fun meetings and friends met at meetings and socializing and smiling. Awesome meetings Please qualify for membership by paying money and we can smile together. Disclaimer: because life is very short and stressful, not everyone is smiling enough at the meetings. Re: Roger’s hat. “Make podiatry great again”. That implies it’s not great now. Well, wasn’t “then” back when it was Chiropody? Just WHEN was podiatry great? According to the lying lifers, all you 1-2 year trained, mustached pods are nearly incompetent compared to TODAY’S near MD (“just like”) 3 year trained technicians, or so they say. Well, what about that little parameter called, ‘YOUR LICENSE’. It seems to me that it’s nearly identical to the license of 40+ years ago. So, mentally confused lifers, which is it? Aw! Those podo politicians SMELL BLOOD IN THE WATER. THE “AM. BOARD OF MULTIPLE SPECIALTIES IN PODIATRY” WANTS “IN” ON ONE BOARD BUSINESS. TRIES to speak with authority on electrolytes, leg cramps, and bone loss. Uh? As if podiatrists spend much if any time ordering them. BTW, the assocication with decreased CA, MG, and K+ and bone loss is a poor indicator of bone loss compared to OTHER SYSTEMIC COMPLICATIONS. To… Read more »

This is what I have been saying. A DPM knows that if one has foot edema a DPM can perform a physical exam in to determine how best to treat pedal edema. The problem with diuretics is that in some cases one needs to understand if a potassium sparing diuretic is best compared to one that is not potassium sparing by getting a copy of the patients blood work up. This way a podiatrist can learn from different internists and after years of doing so can become clinically knowledgeable Regarding the treatment of pedal edema. So long as a state… Read more »

How any of you lifers can allow a small cult to control you and keep you in a limited license life is beyond me.
