Why is USFAS buying Podiatry practices

Why are groups like USFAS (notice no mention of podiatry) buying up podiatry practices ? A better question is why are so many podiatrists selling their practices to these types of groups ?   The answer is a simple one. Podiatry is a dying profession and there is simply no future in private practice.  Everyone is panicked and they are selling their practice to scam groups. They will take whatever money they can get and sell the practice now.  Think about it.  If you had a very successful practice and saw that it would continue to be successful in the future, why would you sell your practice now ?
Here is the best part  …………….
These groups that buy your practice make you invest part of the purchase price, back into their group to give them phony cash reserves, to make them look more profitable than they are.  These groups are simply collecting practices.   The way mortgages were collected before the great housing crash.  These groups are simply trying to fake large profits by not paying their bills, making you invest in their group, and trying to convince potential buyers that podiatry practices are worth investing in.
It is one giant Ponzi scam, perhaps the greatest ever perpetrated in our profession.  If things were that good people would not be selling their practices.  It’s really that simple. Nobody is applying to the schools.  Everyone is trying to sell their practice and get out now.  You have a plethora of healthcare providers, giving patients the same services other than trimming toenails and calluses and hustling orthotics and doing unnecessary surgeries on patients.  If you want to succeed you must pick on minority patients or people who don’t speak English well, or you go someplace where there are not orthopedic surgeons.
Take a look at the classes in the schools.  Now they look like the United Nations.  Podiatry has become one big joke.  That is why admissions are down.  People know what’s going on.  They know that podiatry is not part of mainstream medicine.  Smart pre-med students do not want to incur hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and spend seven years to become a podiatrist  (so you can call yourself a foot and ankle surgeon)  and then go out and trim toenails and calluses all day, barely making a living.   What a farce, the profession has become.

Twenty plus years ago the end-of-podiatry train was chuggin’ hard and fast. Make some changes or it’s gonna keep withering, distancing itself from the mainstream, and there’d be no lateral mover OUT of the P. The “Oh?” doctors, pods sitting at the kiddy table, and the the whatsa whatsa. Project 2015? NOTHING has improved, changed, developed in the P for decades. No matter how many “dissidents” voices were muted, the internet flourished with the impending demise of podiatry as a viable career. It can be blamed on dozens of things, but now, what does it matter? Nearly all healthcare in… Read more »

When Alan Jacob’s cautions podiatry about its moribund state you should worry. Several of his points should be eye opening. (to the lifers) We’ve known and have been warning podiatry for decades. 70-80% of foot surgery is done by MD’s. Even though there are more podiatrists than MD orthopods, it’s the MD DOCTORS THAT RULE THE FOOT. (especially serious complex cases) What happened to the LIE that the MD doesn’t know anything about the foot??!! So, why podiatry? Answer? A New Yawk chiropodist saw a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY and ‘MADE UP’ the idea that chiropodiatry presents itself as if it were… Read more »

Robert ………………………. The leaders of podiatry are scared shitless to come here and voice their moronic opinions. I am referring to each and every apma board member. Not only will they not come to this site, they are not even comfortable chiming in on PM News. That is the sad truth. The name Allen Jacobs should never even be used in the same paragraph talking about the apma board leaders (aka losers). Allen is absolutely brilliant. PERIOD ! The apma board members / leaders are clueless. So clueless that they are proud of this embarrassing profession.

I was set to sell my practice to private equity but after spending a few days at the office I would merge into I walked away. 5 DPM’s seeing 40-50 patients/day (mostly Medicare and Medicaid) and overstaffed “girls” nonstop chatting about where to order lunch and the next birthday party celebration. The structure of the deal looked good at first but the devil was in the details. So many holdbacks and low percentage payment of collections. Do a lapidus and maybe the DPM gets $300. Podiatry is dying a death of a thousand cuts. APMA is worthless too.

Don’t trust anyone associated with podiatry business in any way! There are too many unethical, untrustworthy, mercenary, men associated with this NON MD trade.

Why, then, do the stupid foot technicians continue to support those that keep them down? (ie the APMA, CPME and QUACK COLLEGES) I just don’t get it. When you see someone failing in their duties (to advance podiatry and make it grow) what explanation is there? Perhaps it’s the INSECURITY HIDDEN DEEP IN ALL PODIATRISTS. ( despite their lies that things are great). Fear of podiatry’s gravy train ending (ie. insurance ending or decreasing reimbursement) causes this insecurity. There was a time when even an average pod could make a nice living. Now, that security is very tenuous. Anyone supporting… Read more »

Maybe the person that runs this website (don’t know his name) can contact Dr. Barry Block and ask him to come onto this site and give his opinion. This is what needs to happen. I would be curious what Dr. Block’s take is on the above article.

Hey Dr. Doe, This was copied and pasted from PM News. It is Dr. Block’s editorial in the current issue of Podiatry Management. It’s no secret that the medical specialty of podiatric medicine and surgery faces multiple challenges. The applicant pool to our colleges has diminished to a dangerously low level. Despite some legislative victories, podiatrists have still not been able to become incorporated in Medicaid (Title IX). To achieve success in these critical areas, we will need more than the collective strength of our professional associations. We need to use a secret but powerful weapon that each practitioner has…… Read more »

I COULDN’T DISAGREE MORE HALLUX GUY! (and I usually do) Begging your patients to SELL YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT AN ACTUAL DOCTOR IS TO ASK THEM TO BE COMPLICIT IN YOUR FRAUD. Besides, how does it look to a patient to learn that the tech he’s seeing is marginalized because he has a limited education and license. It’s not the patients fault that he was conned into thinking you’re an actual DOCTOR. YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG to say we should support the APMA OR PPAC. They’ve been a failure for the nearly half century I’ve been in podiatry. Look… Read more »

What quack organization is FASPS? Another fly by night BUSINESS for insecure podiatrist. He won’t come to this site. He’s too busy counting checks and looking at pictures of SHOES. You saw his picture. Does he look like anyone who’s opinion you’d trust.

For the random reader, Barry Block is the PODIATRY DROP OUT who afterward went to law school then started a business selling e-mail numbers from those he got them from by offering free subscriptions.
