This is a serious question here. If somebody does four years of school racking up 200k in debt, then graduate from residency should they not be qualified to practice? Isn’t the practice and the reason Podiatry gives board exams that they know the schools and residencies are not educating as they should?

Here are some tweets about lawyers and bar exams that got me thinking about this issue:

If law schools did not admit so many students, would we really need the bar exam — which does not do a good job measuring professional competence — to weed out 20-50% of aspiring lawyers *after* they have gone into six-figure debt?

The failure of bar examiners in most states to grant a diploma privilege during a pandemic is embarrassing to the profession.  But it also gets to a bigger problem: there are too many diplomas for the job market

It’s a statement, and the basic issue is it’s the schools job to weed out kids that are not smart enough, not the board’s. It’s residency’s job to only graduate qualified residents not the school’s. It’s an interesting thought.
