Physician is an add on word to get students into the non main stream medical fields. like Chiropractic Physician, Podiatric Physician. Does it make any sense, your a physician but you can only work on 22 cm, and no taking care of systemic problems. You take care of diabetic ulcers but can not prescribe insulin or metformin. LOL.
PA’s are FAR MORE OF A PHYSICIAN than any dp wtf.. Full licenses, full body treatments, work the ER’S, used in Tele med for all kinds of conditions, and able to write notes of permission for podiatrist to cut toenails. Something a “foot specialist” (toenail cutter) IS NOT ALLOWED TO DO HIMSELF! How many PA’s today are in hospitals writing on ORDERS: PODIATRIST TO CUT TOENAILS? The state I practice in, has the state podiatry association (of which I am NOT a member) advocating for the use of the term: Podiatric Physician. A classic oxymoron! Podiatry has become the Blockbuster of health care. Blockbuster didn’t want to embrace streaming, and eventually went bankrupt. They kept renting movies until there was no one interested in renting one. Similarly, podiatry did not / will not respond to the growth of NP, DNP and PA. No license enhancement. Again, why do the “controllers” REFUSE to make the NECESSARY leap in education and rejection of ORTHOTIC biomechquactics which are necessary to be recognized as honest, legitimate, and non mercantile. Hey Robert, you mention orthotic sales ? Check out USFAS, the venture capital group buying up everybody’s practices. I know several pods here that sold to this group. They tried to get me interested. They have a weekly orthotic selling contest. That’s correct. A prize is given to the podiatrist selling the most orthotics. And get this. They give double points if you sell a person 2 pairs !! Yep. That’s podiatry commercialism symbolized. Need anything more be said ?
