Why not shut down podiatry schools and replace them with medical schools giving out an MD degree? Then anyone wanting to specialize can do so if they are lucky enough to get matched. Why not pass a law that the graduate of any medical school can have the same scope of practice as a nurse practitioner without any training.
Mandating podiatric residency training for a state license to practice podiatry my opinion is absurd if a podiatrist has 10 years successful practice in any other state. What has the APMA done to help

I am still trying to figure out how the APMA helps me. It has been more than 35 years. Still trying to figure this out. They still have done nothing I know of to encourage license reciprocity for podiatrists without enough residency training who wish to move from state to state. Does the APMA really care about all it’s members?

Sometimes it takes a while for a hospital or surgery center to realize that the DPMs are costing them money. My former hospital stopped allowing frames years ago for DPMs and now are looking at Lapiplasty costs, which they will probably soon say…no more. As for me, I have swallowed my ego and am happy just doing bunions and hammer toes in MY OFFICE !!!!. Got away from all Podiatry organizations, did not renew my Board certification, left the hospital, reduced my malpractice rate and will wait it out 12 more years till retirement. There are professions outside podiatry that might serve as a second source of income that can help a podiatry practice that is not financially solvent. Perhaps even if a practice is financially at a loss a state society might financially reduce the annual dues paid so that income made from outside podiatry can help in paying dues.
