The APMA circus comes to town

The APMA Circus Comes to Town :

The APMA is like the classic traveling circus.  This week, they pitched their tents and 3 ring show in New York City. William Spielfogel, DPM, is the President of The Foundation for Podiatric Medicine, the scientific and research component of the NYSPMA.The foundation runs the NYSPMA annual scientific program ( the lecture schedule ). He is the “Dr.” of Dr. Remedy nail polish.  He is also a podiatry consultant for the Good Feet Store. He added a luncheon lecture from the Good Feet Store to the NYSPMA program.  They had a dinner meeting also. They were given a premium exhibit placement on the 6th floor of the hotel.   Incidentally, Dr. Remedy also had a premium exhibit space. At the meetings, he listed himself as a consultant to the Good Feet Store and President of The Foundation for Podiatric Medicine. This little worm has sold out podiatry.  He has sold out the NYSPMA.  He referred to the Good Feet Store’s $1,000.+ plastic crap as orthotics. The owners of the Good Feet Store refer to their premade crap as custom orthotics.  The Good Feet Store now employs “certified foot technicians”.Whatever that is.   Adam Landman, DPM the poor man’s version of David Armstrong, DPM, MD is also huckstering and panhandling for the Good Feet Store. How many of his advocated products are you using just in your practices ?  Laser ?  Nerve destruction for heel pain ?  Cadaver skin for ulcers ? Miracle wound washes ?  Other Ed McMahon wannabes speaking at the meeting included an apparently well fed and resurrected Warren Joseph and Bryan “melanoma man” Markinson.  Garafaulis, Krause, DeSantis, Frisch, and a host of APMA suck offs and podiatry leeches also crawled and slithered around the meeting. Larry Santi was there, eating liberally as usual.  And the new up and coming APMA clown prince Alan Block, ( the new Jeffrey Lehrman, and long odds to be the next Executive Director ) ass kissed his way around the meeting.  The APMA Lehrman and Kesselman coding show was a total attendance flop with only about 30 attending. Rest assured they still were well paid.  And now we have the Joe Biden and Hunter Biden of New York podiatry selling out to the Good Feet Store. William Spielfogel should be removed from his position, tarred and feathered.  Let him make a living selling antifungal nail polish ( in an infinite array of attractive colors ). Maybe Adam Landsman, DPM  can do one of his landmark Ph.D studies showing Dr. Remedy nail polish cures cancer or sweaty feet or diabetic ulcers.  No shame.  No collegiality. Anything for a buck.  That is podiatry today, in 2024.   The old APMA mob with FREE TRIPS to New York City lecturing for money, sleeping with the Good Feet Store, or just plain hanging out doing nothing but spending your money for no reason other than serving personal agendas or “representing” the APMA. It’s a modern day traveling circus with clowns and elephants and juggling acts.  And like the old time circus, it has seen its day and needs to just go away.

I can only attribute it to insecurity or an abnormal ego. Why would a podiatrist like Splichal call herself a FUNCTIONAL PODIATRIST? Why do podiatrists distance themselves from what they claim is their beloved profession. So we have the nonsense that INACTIVITY causes stiff feet. Can you look me in the eye and tell me you’re a DOCTOR with this egotistical rhetorical nonsense? Because there’s little news for Barry Block to copy and sell he routinely goes “offshore” looking for something to SELL. Bahamian podiatrist talks about ANKLE SPRAINS. CHILDISH, MINIMALLY MEDICAL conditions treated by everyone from school nurses to… Read more »

Barry is pathetic. I cannot believe he is a law school graduate. I would like to see proof.
Proof that he is a moron, is not necessary. This is a given.

Here we go again. The idiot wants to know if we can utilize biologic therapies for the treatment of psoriasis on the foot. This is a perfect example, once again, of someone not knowing what they do not know. Is he going to screen the patient for tuberculosis? Is he going to monitor the patient for gastrointestinal side effects of the medication’s utilization ? Is he prepared to treat any significant potential side effects ? It is simply amazing. The next thing you know, he will want to know if we could treat osteosarcoma if it occurs in the foot… Read more »

Good post HG. Doing the wrong thing gets patients hurt. Most of us know this. But why do some pods insist on this “can do” charade? As much as I joke about the P, things like Hallux wrote are scary. To willfully do stuff to do harm is every which way wrong. It’s a grave responsibility to manage patients with serious anomalies; there are well trained docs who know what they’re doing podiatry training is limited – we know that – but why do this unless you’re evil? Podiatry may not be the first choice, but it is what it is,… Read more »

“couldn’t do more damage than if they stepped on a nail”. Seeing podiatrist are not trained to give TETANUS SHOTS, NOR KNOW THE SEQUENCE OF TREATMENTS FROM NO IMMUNITY TO BOOSTERED IMMUNITY, going to a pod who doesn’t or is forbidden to immunize can cause serious consequences.

Untreated Tetanus has a 50% mortality rate. Podiatrists are poorly trained dangers for anything but minor elective maladies.

First of all, how many MD s and DO s do you see treating toenails. Podiatrists perform wonderful services helpful to others.
They also have the opportunity to spend their money to join the APMA and state societies.

Only a cultish fool would spend his TOENAIL TRIMMING MONEY AND GIVE IT TO THE APMA CROOKS IN HOPE FOR “GROUP APPROVAL”. Insecurity, Immaturity, and Gullibility characterize “Podiatrust” and all Lifers. DUMB GREEDY PODIATRISTS KEEP PODIATRY DOWN < P.A..

The problem remains Eddy is they think they’re “doctors” e.g., physicians and surgeons. For most Dmps, There’s a lot of mental illness – psych issues to contend with. It is from years of willful blindness and lies.

Hey Robert. You make reference to the orthotic racket in podiatry. You should check out USFAS, the group that’s buying all of these practices around the country. They actually have orthotic selling contests. That’s right. They give a $100. award each month for the doctors who sell the most orthotics. They actually post the names of the winners. And here’s the best part, Robert. They give double credit if you sell two pair of Orthotics to the same person. One of the big shakers and movers in the organization is someone who owns an orthotic lab. Enough said ? Sell… Read more »

So called “custom” Orthotics are quack, a lie, a sales fabrication. Theories (and that’s all they are) speculate on controlling twists and turns ALLEDGING that’s what’s needed yet, countless customer-(patients”) swear by drug store and OTC shoe inserts. The Good Feet Store has MD’s, professional athletes, and regular joe’s raving about them. Hear many public praises about foot tech’s super pricy inserts? Anyone selling orthotics are NOT DOCTORS IN MY OPINION. Sales should never be associated with medicine as it’s a conflict of interest. If you need to sell plastic inserts or shoes to make a living maybe you REALLY… Read more »

Ya gotta watch those slipper foot “drs. In the bizarre and sad case of podiatrist Sweeny’s death in the house of her firefighter boyfriend the article said she met him WHILE SHE WAS DOING A SHIFT IN THE E.R..??!! Now, was she a nurse or some other ancillary support personnel? What hospitals have pods sitting around for a shift? Maybe she was a “resident”? Anyway, sad story but suspicious as to being the second death with the same guy while “she was working a shift in the ER”. Don’t count on podiatry to back you up. APMA CIRCUS? How about the PODIATRY CIRCUS? Quack foot lovers still argue about the best way to cast an arch support. Even the son of the INVENTOR OF FOOT THEORIES doesn’t favor his fathers casting technique. Steinberg like slipper casts and so does Stess of STS arch support makers and sellers. Theories and business that the ORTHOTIC RACKET. Aren’t you happy when you sold some supports? Look how stupid the whole thing is. Soft tissue from gangrenous osteomyelitis in toes heal and regenerate. Use placenta etc.. after osteomyelitis bone removal and targeted antibiotic powder. Podiatry is the profession that first used this off label approach to avoid a transmetatarsal amputation.

Despair, desolate, drudgery, and debt awaits the unwitting fools who accept the myths generated by “mainstream” pod-propagandists. Nail dust begins to crystalize on the eyelids of pod-vocates espousing the semi-grand theatre of the fantasy. The script that needed a rewrite was made into a feature at a low budget studio in Springerville with no distribution, and embraced by a tiny audience of fifteen thousand pretenders to the throne of regal banality. Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will incentivized the masses, but “Triumph of the Podiatrists,” failed miserably as one by one generations of DPs realized they were under an horrific… Read more »

Hmmmmm, lots of Podiatry residency programs can not meet their number of cases requirement to graduate. I think CPME should up the numbers to 500 cases. If you do not have the numbers….lawyer up! its not your fault there are not enough half dead 90 year old ICU patients with a hammer toe.

The Podiatry school scam business and the podiatry apprentice business (falsely called a residency) JUST DON’T CARE ABOUT QUALITY. They want “APPEARANCE” SO THEY CAN CONTINUE THE SCAM. The used car dealer will put a nice coat of paint over the rust so as to make a sale. Likewise with the dirty foot school programs. Fancy, “just like”, names, white coat ceremonies, honors and plaques galore. BARRY BLOCK HAS GOTTEN RICH OFF COPYING MAGAZINE AND NEWPAPER ADS FROM DESPERATE PODIATRISTS THAT “APPEAR” TO LOOK LIKE PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN FEET OR THAT FOOT TECHNICIANS HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO SAY THAT… Read more »

oh great os trigonum, please tell me why there are 3 years “residencies” in Surgical foot and ankle when the reimbursement has declined 80% from what it was 10 years ago? Is it all about that we do three years like the MDs do three years? bur Great Os. our programs are not ACGME accredited. and by the way great OS, why do PAs and NPs have a full license and we do not?

robert bijak

Great Os: Because NP and PA’s are trained in the mainstream by REAL DOCTORS not quacks teaching quacks. How can a podiatrist who thinks a P&A is “just like” a systemic medical procedure teach you? A NON PILOT can’t teach you to be a pilot. Podiatry is ALL WRONG. Once it passed the Chiropody line and came “across the border” it was (academically) “illegal”. Egotistical delusional NARCISISTS gravitate toward politics, and these politicians determine policy. When the politicians have a PERSONAL AVERSION to their ACTUAL state you can’t expect them to change it for YOU. Thus, the Rhetoric of “just… Read more »

Just got back from the NY conference. Less crowded and more relaxable. Even if I did not see that many recent graduates I had the privilege to meet many more experienced podiatrists. Perhaps others should spend their money to qualify to join the NYSPMA so that more podiatrists will enjoy attending this meeting. One gets to socialize, meet vendors. Some vendors might possibly greet you with a smile. Learn about different creams, products for toenails etc… Perhaps even one vendor can teach how one might give up their independent practice and have it taken over by others Think of all… Read more »

My opinion is one is a loser if they lose the right to attend online CME credits for 100 percent of the cme credits being allowed.
This should be a choice of each individual podiatrist.
However, the NYSPMA conference was awesome educational and enjoyable. Meeting vendors old classmates, thank you NYSPMA and APMA.
Hey Gastworthless, please have a wonderful day. Please remember that at this conference I feel Dr. Jacobs Podiatrist gave wonderful lectures.

Meet old friends with bent backs, orthotic filled Rockports, loud checkered sport coats and coffee breath whispering secret coding tricks to their fellow cultists. That’s really a pod seminar.

If a State forbids one to touch the ankle leg or treat any systemic disease shouldn’t those type of lectures count for NO CREDIT? 80% OF PODIATRY IS PLAIN CHIROPODY.

Hallux Guy, my personal opinion is that if a podiatrist does not attend in person meetings such as the one I attended, there might be problems renewing ones license. I believe some podiatrists feel forced to attend in person meetings. My opinion is this is wrong and every podiatrist should have the freedom to choose which format CME credits should be obtained be it in person or online. One no longer has the freedom to choose online CME credits for 100 percent of credits to renew ones license. So if one feels pressured into attending person meetings, why not emphasize… Read more »

The conference is a barometer of how you’re doing ($ and wooden plaque wise) compared to the other non MD medical school rejects. Money, plaques, and name recognition are the podiatric barometers, certainly not original peer reviewed articles. Whispers, plans made, traps set, to suppress competition and aggrandize yourself in this minimally medical BUSINESS. Boasting and chest puffery abound. Everyone (especially the “lecturers”) are there to show you how “nearer to God” (the MD) they are compared to you. It’s a once in a year measure to see who’s higher in HELL. Remember, dear dpm. Even the “lecturer of lecturer’s”… Read more »
