The Cancel Culture and Podiatry
Dr. Bob Bijak has long claimed that his access to presentation of opinions contrary to the podiatry status quo was cancelled by Barry Block. His opinions were in some instances threatening to the existing podiatry power structure. Whether correct or incorrect in his conclusions, the profession was denied the opportunity to consider proposals not in the best interest of those in power. APMA controls access to thoughts critical of the status quo in the same manner. Why ? Power and money. APMA muck-a-mucks make money. And sometimes lots of money, lecturing, as consultants, as expert witnesses, as start up consultants in business working together. They do so by control of power over you. There are also those at the next level, who receive the same benefits by simply going along with the power crowd. They make lots of money lecturing and consulting and expert witnessing through APMA activities. Let us take a few simple examples. You are an APMA officer. You invent a brace for a problem. Let’s theoretically say equinus. Suddenly, the topic of equinus is on the curriculum of many APMA programs. And the inventor by coincidence is the speaker. Or let’s postulate that you design a new method to perform a bunionectomy. Oh for example a bunionectomy like the Lapidus. Your company donates money to meetings. Suddenly, this topic is highlighted at ACFAS meetings. Or let’s pretend you and fellow APMA thugs start a business. Just for hypothetical a GPO supply company. Somehow the initial investors are APMA power brokers. No general offering is made to the podiatry public. The organizers fly from meeting to meeting on your expense supposedly for APMA business. But coincidentally they just happen to market their business while at the meetings. Coincidence ? You maintain power by cancelling those who might suggest improprieties by the APMA. And marginalization and vilification of those who question the motivations of those in the APMA. This has been the modus operandi. The result is obvious. You live with the results every day. Cancel culture and the APMA. And now ACFAS. Money, power, self serving interests for insiders only. That is podiatry 2024

Let me tell you a story about today’s young podiatrists. I received a call from a patient I’ve seen for 5 years. She asked if I could see her in the hospital. She had been admitted but I was never consulted. I saw her 2 days ago. She had been in the hospital for 2 weeks with sepsis from a foot ulcer, respiratory distress and ESRD. Robert, all a podiatrist needs to do is to get licensed in New Jersey, Florida etc… and begin treating the ankle. One does have to pass a national exam to get licensed in Florida.

A few podiatrists might be inconsiderate. Most care about helping others and take the oath they took seriously. For example, toenail care is important. Some toenails grow and need to be trimmed. Think about it and be proud of the valuable services a podiatrist performs.
There’s an American Culture way to do things, there’s a podiatric culture way to do things, and there’s a “I miss my ancestorial homeland way of doing things. M.D. I.D. with an M.D. foot and ankle or general surgeon would be my choice. Think of their experience in surgery, general medicine, and infectious disease.
Artificial intelligence is the future of medicine as well as podiatric medicine. Let us embrace this concept.

My personal opinion is board certification should never be a requrement and there should be an equal path for every podiatrist to gain hospital privileges as well as to upgrade their skill set. Perhaps you may or may not be board certified by the board that the hospital approved. My guess if the podiatrist in charge might be telling the hospital which board to accept and this just might be the board the podiatry chief is board certified in be it a board recognized by the APMA vs a board not recognized by the APMA.
