Resident Podiatrists only want one job
It used to be when graduating from residency Podiatrists would look for jobs in private Podiatry practices, in fact that was what the majority of Podiatry grads wanted. Now the graduates all only want one job in a medical group, ortho group or hospital group. Why do they want that? Security and money. Podiatrists right now see private practice as risky lacking secrity. Too many horror stories of older Podiatrists taking advantage of younger Podiatrists. But now Podiatry grads all want medical and surgical group jobs, they get built in referral sources. No begging other Podiatrists for referrals. When you see the ads on PM News its all for private practice jobs that grads dont want or practices for sale. that nobody wants. Podiatry private practices are dying and the new grads see that, its all well and clear. Everyone wants a medical group job.

Now Dr. Paul Kestlehem is doing consulting for the TAYCO brace company. This is an external AFO that is worn on the outside of your shoe. The problem is the brace will damage your shoe. Dr. Kestlehem has NEVER disclosed this important information when doing TAYCO sales informercials (ie. webinars). Read the following link on the Student Doctor Network : https://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/tayco-brace.1474261/ Garrett Gingerich is the marketing manager at the TAYCO brace company. His post was deleted by the administrator at the Student Doctor Network because he FAILED TO DISCLOSE HE IS EMPLOYED BY TAYCO. Very unethical. Shame on Garrett Gingerich… Read more »
Never used this brace. I have seen photos. Looks bulky.
Let us be all honest here, The 3 year residency was a flop, I am an associate making 90K plus commission. Surgery? you said Surgery? Not that easy to book a case. What is all this talk about Podiatry being a surgical specialty? If you count cutting nails as surgery well then I am doing surgery all day long. No way do you need three years in a Podiatry residency. If someone tells you that they have been drinking podiatric kool-aid.
Thanks for your input. No offense but commission in podiatry usual equals “extra billing”.(fraud)
DPM grad, we’ve been talking about this for years. DPM=DPM=DPM…the never-changing substitute – The generic Coca Cola from the convenience store in Springervill.
Schlaps Cola only 39 cents….free diabetes too! Try Schaps!
What kind of “dr” works for COMMINSION?! gEE I hope my cardiologis and internist don’t look at me as a “product”.
One or two sick lifers using different names to COVER UP THE TRUTH. There names are known. They like commissions and money. They are the half that make up the DIRTY part of podiatry.

For those still believing podiatrists are just like, below has been copied from today’s Becker’s Orthopedic Review. From salaries to changes in the number of physicians working, here are five orthopedic statistics to know in 2023: 1. In 2021 there were 18,469 active orthopedic surgeons, according to the Association of American Medical College’s “2022 Physician Specialty Data Report.” That figure was down 3.7% from 2016. 2. The average pay for orthopedic physicians was $557,000, according to Medscape’s “Physician Compensation Report 2022.”. The average incentive bonus was $126,000. 3. Forty-five percent of orthopedic surgeons surveyed said they experienced burnout, Medscape’s “Physician… Read more »
Don’t think pods are considered physicians in the articles, but suppose plenty of pods refer to themselves as “orthopedists”-
How does an M.D. PSYCHIATRIST do compared to a NON md foot technician?
Psychiatry’s generally the “fallback” res for folks who don’t make the first cut, or don’t want to touch people. It’s a nice gig, There are plenty of psychiatrists who got tired of their first specialty choice, and a few years later did a res in psychiatry to kick back. I don’t concern myself with other people’s wallets. Figurin’ if you get to staring at the sprinkles on someone else’s ice cream yours’ll melt. Lot of pods with puddles of melted ice cream in their laps.
Podiatrists tend to “stare at other people’s wallets”. Look at all the ads in Barry Block’s sales newsletter. “increase your bottom line”. “Increase profits”, “Get more patients”, Build a profitablae niche business, “Buy orthotics for $45” (mark up what you can get away with) The concern about podiatrists and money is that about half the trade is money oriented and they tend to get in CONTROLLING positions keeping podiatry aimed in a local limited business direction instead of a FULL BLOWN MEDICAL one. If podiatry is to get honest and join the mainstream we need to be conscious of that… Read more »
The first step is to recognize your sick. Most lifers haven’t (won’t) accept that they really didn’t graduate from an actual MEDICAL SCHOOL. I can see why they would be embarassed to face a real MD and have to explain to him that HE IS WHAT THE POD DREAMED TO BE. IT’S HARD TO FACE A FAILED DREAM.

Unfortunately I think new graduates want most any job.
Yeah, Sybly. Once the NON md FOOT TECHS are released from their 3 year indenture of making money for the hospital and director, the REALIZATION that the OUTSIDE WORLD for podiatry is no where near the almost, just like, world inside of the MAINSTREAM. Once out, it’s they try to make a worthwhile living with a near useless license. Nail cutting, arch support selling, newspaper ads, and RATIONALIZATIONS TAKE OVER. It has always been the INFERIOR EDUCATION that leads to an INFERIOR LICENSE that leads to pathological ideation and pathological BEHAVIOR. I saw the add for St. James School of… Read more »
Got stupe debt loans?
Then y’a need a job, stable job with benies for all those fkg debts. Forget the private porktice nonsense
Have a pod residuncey grad party as mr director. Get the stipend for food etc from program. Spend 10% on some shitty frozen “food”, corn syrup drinks and scuzzy beer, and pocket the rest. Podiatrick way!
Buying an established practice is a bad idea. First of all there’s no guarantee you’ll get accepted to the insurance companies the seller was on. Poof! Patient base GONE. Next, you’d better have one of those boards and the newly named (sans admitting what it is) “sx” board better be the one if you think you’re going to do sx. All those ducks better be in the row BEFORE YOU BUY, BUT WHY buy? DO what all 70’s,80’s and 90’s podiatrist did. Open up NEAR the office of an older pod or a pod without boards and you’ll pull there… Read more »
