What will save Podiatry. This is the only thing that will save Podiatry from extinction. GO BACK to 1970s. Do nail debridement, c and c, Ingrown nail removal, P&As, hammer toe sx and a silver akin in the office. I’ve long maintained that if podiatry wants to become accepted and mainstream it needs to distance itself from SHOE AND ORTHOTIC SALES. You can see the businesses are bad mouthing each other and calling each others theories as quack. It’s a play for money not medicine. While grandiose claims are made for each quackthotic method there is still no scientific consensus on what if any of their claims work. A PA, is fully licensed, PAs now do residencies, PAs are cheaper than a DPM and don’t play the CPT code game. PAs are part of mainstream medicine. Plus you have over 200,000 of them, that makes then politically strong. Podiatry is dying very rapidly and I am out of this in 2 years but may have to quit before that. My partner and I have witnessed in 30 years the rapid decline and so have others, APMA will never tell you that.

Love this site ! Did not know about it. This site is 100 Percent truth. I am posting because my referral base from a group of family practice docs just disappeared !! The hospital bought the group and gave the 7 Family Docs 2 PAs. The PAs are doing ingrown nails and nail avulsions and treating tinea etc. and surgery now goes to the ortho group the hospital bought. Just read a commercial for fungal nails. They say see your DOCTOR ( ie primary) and he MAY refer you to a podiatrist, chiropodist or FOOT CARE NURSE! Yeah, “they’re working hard”. Would you send your patient to a guy who you know is associated with pictures of shoes with music boxes in the heels and who charges $500+ for a shoe insert that is about 50/50 chance of working better than an OTC.
