The Akin procedure itself doesn’t address the underlying cause of most bunions. In the 1980’s when 2 procedures needed to be done the Austin Keller was performed or a Reverdin Laird procedure combined with a Keller etc….. This is usually performed on the same day. The one caveat is that if a patient has a bunion on both feet, I would not perform such surgery on the same day on both feet. Now if a podiatrist chooses to decide if they want to add an akin later on a different date, they should tell the patient that there are podiatrists… Read more »
