The podiatry job market is absolutely horrible relative to any legit medical specialty. We are insanely saturated. It’s a shame. Our laughable compensation clearly reflects this. We covet and apply widely for jobs like VA and IHS that majority of MD/DO won’t even consider to be legit good pay for a podiatrist (relative to what else we can find for pay + benefits). That tells you all you need to know. I, and many ppl I know, did “everything right” in podiatry… near top of pod school class, a couple scholarships, good residency at my top choice, passed boards, work… Read more »

Such a truthful accounting of REAL PODIATRY. So polar to the dirty lying pods at seminars or associated with PM NEWS. See? As long as there’s a firehose of lies compared to an eyedropper of truth the dirty aspect of podiatry will continue to get rich without having to do much work or have much responsibility. “FALICE” posted a tome of info. all prospective students should read. What do you do when you’re so deep in podiatry you can’t get out? Perhaps posting here is a bit of a cathartic. At least it’s a chance to get even with those… Read more »

Well, the alarm finally went off in my head and I woke up …but woke up too late, spent 3 years in a high Powered residency and what happened, no one wanted me as an associate. First I wanted 200K a year because I thought I was worth it, HA ! reality was, I was getting offered 125 K and 20% commission. There were only a… Read more »

Yes, it IS “dog eat dog” in podiatry. That’s because podiatry was started in New Yawk City as a BUSINESS FIRST. Need? Not really. Just a business opportunity that is profitable IF the competition is kept down. Of course they don’t tell you this is the Kabuki interview making you think getting in is competitive. Though, they do slightly imply that there’s NO GUARANTEE of success. No, it’s “SURGEON”, “JUST LIKE”, and a “SOMEDAY” SUNDAE prepared just for you. (and your check book) How many times have we heard of guys after 3 years more than the 4 years of… Read more »

The best kept secret in health jobs……….cue hysterical laughter: “My daughter is a 1st year student at a college of osteopathic medicine. Next month, I am going to her white coat ceremony. They informed my daughter that they will allow parents who are MDs or DOs to coat their kids, but not a DPM as we are not considered physicians. Also consider, the 3 other schools she was accepted to would have allowed a DPM to coat a student. My daughter is very upset as she told them I am a surgeon and board certified. Their answer was we just… Read more »
