It is a lot of money if one is a podiatrist. This is my opinion. However teachers make more and have benefits. Again I believe NP is a much better degree and accomplishment (regarding anatomic scope of practice) than a DPM because its an unlimited license.

Adjusting shoes is part of what I do in order to alleviate pain sub painful areas of feet. An excavation in the shoe below a painful area is sometimes helpful. Who cares if it is not covered by insurance. So long as the patient feels better this is what matters in life. Helping others. Seth, one does not have to be an MD or NP to understand that if a vascular surgeon recommends an angiogram for a blockage in a patient with and ulceration yet with a high bleeding risk, another vascular surgeon or physician may have a different opinion. Perhaps the first vascular doctor did not fully explain the bleeding risk to a patient before a patient chooses to get that angiogram.
Risks benefits and alternatives must be explained before deciding to give informed consent for invasive procedures.

Robert, I never learned about bleeding risk stratification in podiatry. I was taught about this by a vascular specialist and the literature. My point is that whenever a specialist decides on treatment, that specialist be it a DPM, MD or DO, could ask to have their suggestions for treatment concurred by the patients primary doctor or another specialist in the field to get a second opinion. Just because someone is a so called specialist might not necessarily make a decision to perform a procedure the best choice for a patient who has complicated medical conditions. Robert please reread what I posted. You misinterpreted what I posted. I was already taught by a vascular surgeon about bleeding risk indications. A second vascular specialist may not necessarily agree with a primary vascular specialist regarding deciding if a patient should or should not have an endovascular procedure.
The likelihood that one MD vascular surgeon disagrees with another is minimal. They all have standards and morals they follow. Unlike the fake medical field of podiatry where procedures are done based on money, MD’s do procedures to save limbs. REAL LIMB SALVAGE. An MD from a foreign is much better off than a dpm. That MD (even if not immediately licensed) opens many opportunities. Many states allow a period of time for non licensed FMG’S to get up to speed. Besides, FMG’s are not limited only to the US for training. Many other countries will welcome them. Once they have training, if they wish, they can apply to the US. Mexico is different in that a requirement for the titulo was one year of social service and licensed in Mexico (Medico-Cirujano)-same in other Latin American and European countries (in the past) back to the US for another year of supervised clinical training. Several states have started an Associate Physician program, If you are a foreign med school grad and did not get a residency but passed usmle 1,2 and 3 you can practice full scope while under another physicians license. Also in 2013 the department of Education put in place a process where Foreign Medical school like the Caribbean and Mexico can get certified as legit and allow the students to enter residency match.
