The recent PM News discussion regarding the declining APMA membership misses the point. It reminds me of the Democratic Party. Ignore reality as though it does not exist. Put forth a ridiculous alternative for distraction and focus. Continue down the path of self destruction for the population in general while maintaining a select inner sanctum of those benefiting personally.
Reality ? Most see the APMA for what it is. A self serving collection of hucksters stuffing their own pockets for personalgain. It was once stated by a famous football coach that “you are what your record says you are”. If the APMA were effective in advancing the profession, demonstrated foresight and insight, truly protected and advanced the profession and science, the insider self serving and frankly corrupt behavior of APMA leadership could almost be tolerated to a point. Rather, the APMA is supported primarily by those personally benefiting financially or politically from the organization, those who believe the APMA to represent their security, or by those lacking critical thinking capabilities.
The result ? Increasingly vacant college seats. Poor quality residency training. An average income below $150,000 with a student debt triple this. A slow transition of the profession back to chiropody days. Total corporate control of an already failed postgraduate CME system. A free-for-all array of false credentials, boards, and the overt acceptance of fraud, abuse, and out and out quackery.
This Dear APMA, Dr. Block, and APMA insiders is why we do not support the APMA.
