The silence and complete failure of the APMA to provide guidance for podiatrists dealing with the current pandemic is bad enough.
What information they do provide, predictably, all relates to money. Yes this is important. But what about everything else? Oh that’s right.
The self appointed diabetic foot experts, many of whom make their money lecturing, consulting, or publishing the same thing over and over again, gave us a worthless “classification system” for prioritizing diabetic foot care needs. That’s because the rest of you are too stupid to know that an infected foot ulcer in a patient who is febrile is more important than nail trimming. If only these author-philosophers practiced instead of hustling.
Then there is PM News, the Pravda of the APMA. PM News could have temporarily suspended its usual collection of inane stories (food parties, who got a job where, outrageous shoe of the day). Instead, the daily news blast could have served as a source of good information regarding the current pandemic. Oh I can hear Barry now. We have articles. And besides, my stuff cheers people up and gets their minds off Coronavirus.
We will never know how many suicides have been prevented by a picture of the “outrageous shoe of the day”.
Worse is the damage to our profession likely done by the APMA and PM News. What is the first thing that the APMA did ?
Forward a letter to intelligent and responsible people imploring them to make DPM’s …… MD’s or DOs’. Lying and misrepresenting podiatry “education” as equivalent to that of a true physician. Then the hurrahs from the podiatry dimwits, which Barry publishes, say “yes we are trained just as a physician”.
Bullshit. The APMA knows it’s bullshit. PM News knows it’s bullshit. The remainder of the real medical world knows it’s bullshit. You know it’s bullshit.
