So there is a great deal of discussion about how the COVID vaccine will be distributed. How to get the COVID vaccine to the highest risk populations. Some of the highest risk populations are diabetic, obese and elderly, all people that Podiatrist’s see on a daily basis. So why not have Podiatrist’s participate in giving the COVID vaccine? In England Podiatrists already give flu vaccines such as this:

I fear the reason is we all know what would happen. There would be some Podiatrists that would see this as a chance to grow their practice and make a fast buck. No sooner would the vaccine be at the Podiatrists offices than the sign of  COVID Vaccine shots for 1k would go up on the schlupp down the street. The AAPPM would have an article on how to use the flu vaccine to grow your practice. It’s another stream of revenue they would announce.

But still, it does make some sense for Podiatrists to help in the great vaccine roll out, but as always I doubt it would happen. Perhaps the APMA could lobby for it, although there is some probably rare strapping code that Jeffery Lehreman has found that they need to lobby to keep getting reimbursed for Medicare.
