The new issue of PM magazine is beautiful. Just beautiful. Take a look at the advertisements for seminars. This is your profession as represented by Barry Block’s advertisers. Just look at it. You have an advertisement for the desert foot program. This is a diabetes-based seminar. In other words, Presents makes its money ripping off, I’m sorry, charging exhibitors and getting money for lectures primarily on the subject of wound healing in diabetes. Great Faculty. One of the leaders was literally kicked out of his veterans hospital with allegations of abusing wound care products. The guy has made tons of money stealing from these companies which he has invested in real estate. Of course you had another Presents faculty member who was arrested for trying to murder his wife. Everyone who lectures there is selling some type of product and being sponsored by some company or another. Just a great seminar. Great if you’re the one who is pocketing the money running the thing. Not so great if you’re actually looking for objective education to advance the care of your patients. Then we have the seminar from the intergalactic aesthetic foot society, whatever the hell that is. Oh yes, the plastic surgeons of the foot. Just look at the lectures. Some of them are guys that we have seen lecture for just about every product hiding behind a PhD pretending to be a scientist. Yep, makes me proud. We have a lecture from the association of extremity nerve surgeons. Another group that we can be proud of. These people believe they can cure all sorts of things such as diabetic neuropathy by doing surgery. You have to drink the Kool-Aid and become a passionate believer. Before you know it you actually think your curing neuropathy. It’s really a shame that the American Diabetes Association or the Academy of Neurology, or the rest of the world doesn’t seem to believe this horseshit. And of course we have the minimal incision surgeons doing their deal. Another seminar with people who have well, let’s say their own way of looking at things. As I always say, minimal incision, minimal thinking, minimal talent, minimal competency. We have a lot to be proud of. And there they are, all laid out in PM magazine. It’s kind of rotating lunacy actually. Soon we’ll be seeing more advertisements for the pediatric experts who’s leaders have no publications in pediatrics, nor do they have any training in pediatrics. No problem there. After all we can cripple children just as easily as we can cripple adults. And of course there is the intergalactic podiatry society with their vacation trips disguised as an educational opportunity. Who the hell is actually going to these meetings is the real question. Obviously somebody’s going because they advertise these things and apparently they are successful enough to return year after year after year. Just amazing. What a low level profession this is. A bunch of quacks and snake oil sales people functioning outside the edge of real medicine, science, and facts. I guess the message is clear. If you want to see the latest in quack medicine just check out PM magazine. They’ll tell you where to go for the latest information. It is where ignorance and stupidity come together.
