This is the question Lawrence Rubin posed in the latest PM News using as evidence two Podiatrists recently convicted of millions of dollars worth of fraud. This evidence is sketchy at best as Podiatrists have been convicted of fraud over the last decade at a fairly regular rate. Now is there a chance that OIG has determined that Podiatrists commit more fraud than the average provider of course there is. But that evidence does not exist yet. Here’s the deal the easiest way to figure out who is committing fraud is to look at the highest Medicare billers in the country and those are most likely your Podiatrists that are committing the most fraud. Think of it as a Belle Curve as long as you are not in the extreme 10% of Medicare billing you are fine, its the outliers the government is looking for and going after.

OOPS! We’re going back to the future. The laser scam is coming back. MLS is changing practices. They would love to SELL YOU A LASER. Good luck getting paid. Good Luck getting it to work. ‘KNIFELESS, DRUGLESS, PAINLESS’ are terms you can use to divert patients to you instead of to a DOCTOR. The New Yawk school had to have a program telling the techs what life will be like post quack school, apprenticeship (it’s not a residency!) and “beyond”. How long is beyond is a legitimate question. Why is podiatry so unsure and insecure about the future? That’s a… Read more »
chasskins and/or wanderer appear to have a problem with truth and reality. Reality aversions.
Yeah Flatus, no matter what is written they’ll vote negative. A real TESTAMENT TO THEIR SIMPLE NON MD MIND. NO REFUTATION. NO DEBATE. NO HONOR. Just a non doctoral reflexive level of incongruencies that confuse their insecure brainwashed ideation and reality. So many podiatrists operate at that level as proved by the minimal inertia expended to correct the many defects in this dirty trade. It’s easier to “go along” and be LED than to think. That’s why the vast majority of podiatrists were REJECTED from Medical School. As usual, I include myself. But, at least, I’ve accepted it and admit… Read more »
There’s something off kilter with pearls and mitchlins headshots. Off.
Light in the loafers.
Maybe they’re bored certified in miss procedures
Lololol! Yup, MISS procedures. Maybe Shylock can have some work done since it loves womens shoes….
Larry Rubin is blowing smoke out his ass. There is not a day that goes by in which MD’s are indicted or convicted for massive scams and theft. There is no evidence that DPM’s are disproportionately committing Medicare fraud. Barry only publishes podiatry related charges. MD’s are not immune to money first driven practice. The suggestion by some on this site that MD’s exist in an angelic world are ridiculous.
Hallux Guy, you’re absolutely correct. Ain’t no “angelic” world. The crooked guys just have more tissues to misuse and greater variety of scams. Podiatry is small in numbers, so why bother with small potatoes when they can go after the multimillion dollar scams – Thanks for pointing that out. E
Angelic world? No, but percentage wise yes. 15,000 pods vs. ONE MILLION (1,000,000!) MD’s. That’s 66.6 times more MD’s than foot technicians. There’s a difference between “money driven practices” and FRAUD.
It comes down to……..CPT coding. The more codes you have access to the higher probability you are going to try to pump up the bill. The most common comments heard at DPM CME meetings…..Which codes pay the best? Which “diagnostic tools ” should I buy that I can bill for?
Yes, many MDs (MD=More Drugs) are scumbags too. Some are Hustlers and hucksters like dp wtfs. Dp wtfs go for the geld fraud wise bc they’ve got only 26cm to fuck with.
Lots of MDs commit fraud day and night.
…You went to 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of podiatry school, 3 years of residency, and $300k in debt to become a “foot and ankle surgeon” and only get paid as much as the greasy chain oriental food-Panda Express manager. Better luck in your next life….
Yup. The bad joke is on you schmucko.

Those who are SCARRED the deepest are the most hurt. They have a need to avenge the con by getting even through fraud. Some of the widest smiling, back slapping, checkered coat wearing, podiatric-lifer-cheerleaders are in jail. Podiatry is cruel. It promises you fantasies of a second chance and riches. The reality hits and you find your need is minimal and YOU MUST advertise and have fish tanks in your office to fill the seats. Those brought up thinking $ makes the man (more than morality) cozy up to the “practice management” personalities and start down the slippery slope. A… Read more »
