He says only 20% of D.P.M.’s need be boarded surgeons. The rest ? Boarded in medicine and orthopedics.
First of all, Sherman and Presents run a “medical board” review course. Unlike the ABFAS, the “medical board” allows participation of its officers (and Presents) to PROFIT from the board examination courses.
This clear conflict of interest was not disclosed by Dr. Sherman.
Conflict of interest ? Sub Rosa payments ? Not new to Dr Sherman and Presents. Why the change in VA registration policy ? What really happened to Dr. Frykberg at the Carl Hadden VA ?
For whom are Dr.’s Rogers and Lavery and Schoenhause and the rest paid consultants ?
How much money did you get from companies such as Advanced Biohealing ?
Placing Harold Schoenhause in the same category as Earl Kaplan was yet another self serving maneuver by Dr. Sherman. Few consider Harold Schoenhause (or Presents other muck a mucks) as a surgical thought leaders in today’s world. Thus the retreat of Presents through Dr. Sherman’s effort to “build up” the so called “medical aspects” of this profession.
This is no different than his call for increased on-line CME availability. Just by coincidence, he has a company to provide such a service. For a fee.
It appears that the “medical side” of Podiatry just cannot remove Presents from it’s midst like the parasitic entity which it is. Look at the Presents lecture content.
They are filled with corporate biased innuendo and are frequently more commercially than academic balanced.
Increasingly, we see Presents “workshops” for wound care products and lectures which are product based. You know, open the package, wet the product, put on the wound, cover the wound.
The “medical leaders” in Podiatry have already demonstrated their true profit driven motives. Boards in diabetic foot/limb salvage ?
Is that sticking a piece of expensive amniotic crap on a wound, or a tibial calcaneal arthrodesis with IM nail and 4-ring external fixation ? Which is it ?
What’s next ? Certification in podiatric dermatology ? Podiatric neurology ?
Presents appears to be steadily declining in its influence. It can only exist so long as it convinced corporations that it can fill the room and its web sites with potential customers.
Dr. Sherman’s suggestion is nothing more than a vailed effort to maintain market share. His influence remains only with losers and has-beens of this profession.
And if the 20% of podiatric foot and ankle surgeons are the best on the planet, I have a serious question for Dr. Sherman.
Why did you allow your son to become an M.D. ? Why did he chose to become a pediatrician fellowship trained in emergency medicine ?
Dr. Sherman you show all the love in the world for podiatry, yet you’re son jumped to the medical side of the fence. Why did this happen ?

The reason why these folks cannot “give up” on podiatry, foot, whatever, is that if you have a cushy job and a rather large income, it’s kind of difficult to be critical of the profession that gave you those things.
