My opinion : A not so Happy New Year
Seems to me that few people write into PM News or Pod Post anymore. It’s as if nobody even cares anymore. Podiatry Today has shrunk down to next to nothing. Down to a few pathetic pages. Bathroom reading. Most of the articles in JFAS by far are written by M.D.’s. School registrants decline. Attendance at many seminars is forced only because of CME demands. More and more podiatrists are selling their practices to super groups who appear to be cash poor in reality.
Quackery in podiatry continues as a major source of income. Lasers, creams, miracle neuropathy cures, orthotics, diabetic ulcer cures, toenail cures. Unneeded and unnecessary laboratory studies are declining, as BAKO and McClain have discovered and Sagis is about to learn. It appears the diabetic foot scam, particularly the overpriced and over used skin graft substitute market is going down. OIG is looking harder and harder.
Foot first aid, formerly easy peasy money, is now being provided by Urgent Care Centers, physicians and PAs and NPs and even vascular surgeons. APMA membership declines, as the APMA cartel members ( eg: DeHeer, Lehrman, Krause, King, Vlahovic, Joseph, Steinberg, Cole, Presents, on and on ) continue to use their positions for personal gain.There is money in sucking up to the APMA. Podiatrists are marionettes and these people are puppet masters. Podiatrists purchasing tickets for the same show night after night. Or should I say seminar after seminar.
Only ACFAS remains stable and growing, fostering a surgery first mentality. At least they try to act like a real medical education organization.
Corporations and businesses control podiatry CME. Go ahead, ask the reps what they really think of podiatrists. They know suckers when they see them. Do you honestly believe they hold a podiatrist in the same respect as an M.D. or D.O. ? Do you think a podiatrist is anything but potential sales for their products?
CPME allows scams in seminar CECH’s to continue unchecked. Poor quality podiatry residencies abound. The podiatry world seems to have a disproportionate number of practitioners whose names you cannot pronounce or spell, as podiatry increasingly looks like the World Health Organization without the knowledge or intellect. What happened to all the Jews and Italians? Or males in general? Yeah I know, offensive observation. No mal intent, just an observation.Pretty soon the podiatry colleges will be saying press one for English………….
Toenails remain the major source of podiatry income, unless you make your living talking people into unnecessary surgery. Especially TARs and Charcot Joint surgery. Frames and IM nails are the diamond rings of podiatry.
Yes there are exceptions. But overall do I have this right ? What am I missing ? Where is this going ?
The way things are I do not expect an answer. It’s the old ” if a tree falls and nobody hears it ” theory. Podiatry appears headed for the same status as the chiropractic and optometry business. Or the Good Feet Store with a license to do more damage. AOFAS will continue to grease the downward slide. ACGME ? USMLE ? M.D. equality ?Not a chance in this world, not now, not ever. Insecure podiatrists need to be around deluded (due to THEIR insecurity) podiatrists in order to strengthen the FALSE REALITY they believe they’re living in. I had cause yesterday to go to a REAL DERMATOLOGIST. Once again the VAST DIFFERENCE IN MD and dpwtf world slapped me in the face. First of all, the office was not in a strip mall or a converted house. The place was immaculate and everyone was ALERT AND ATTENTIVE.. Most strikingly were the CREDENTIALS.
