Top 10 Ways to Succeed in Podiatry

You can make beaucoup bucks in podiatry. You can call yourself doctor. You can write prescriptions. You can do surgery. You can be immensely successful with minimal intellect but lots of hustle and lots of denial.
And with applications to the schools going the way of the dodo bird, now’s the time to jump in.  But how will you make money ?

Easy.

Here are the keys to your future:

1.  You are willing to talk people into surgery they do not require.  Or even need.  Bunions are cancer.  Heel spurs a fatal disease.  Flatfoot a curse on humanity.      The more you believe everything you see belongs in the operating room, the more you will do, the more you will make.      The more you will believe that what you do is proper.  For those who do the most, residency or fellowship directorship is in your future.      And corporate dollars will fill your pockets.

2.  You will sell anything and everything to vulnerable people.  Creams that don’t work.  Gels that don’t work.  Pills that do not work.  Therapies that do not work.      You must never ask why, outside of podiatry and maybe chiropractic, no one else in medicine employs these therapies.      These are secrets only known to podiatrists, too advanced for an MD to understand.      You must never ask for evidence that these things work.  You want evidence ?  Check your bank account.

3.   You must sell orthotics or some type of in the shoe therapy to everyone.  You must subscribe to a biomechanics theory of your choice, and follow the tenants of your chooses faith.       And it will be a faith.  Remember, podiatry offers religious choice.  All theories are welcome.  We do not allow persecution for quackery, I mean alternative thinking.

4.  You must swear allegiance to people you know are crooks, hucksters, shysters.  They will lead you through the promised land of money acquisition.      You must never ask questions such as “what about the patient ?”.  This is not your concern.  Never.  It would ruin everything.      And never ask if those lecturing to you, have or ever had a successful practice.  They haven’t.  That’s why they are lecturing you.

5.  You must become a true believer or be excommunicated.  You must acquire a minimum of 5 board certifications recognized by no one and representing nothing.      You must attend CME meetings (well, at least sign in) and never learn anything outside of that which the APMA wants you to learn.      Or which corporations and the pharmaceutical industry wants you hear.   And believe.

6.  PM Magazine shall serve as your gospel message of the day.  Oh, and no legal advice however.      Podiatry Today shall serve as your monthly reminder that all which is stupid and incompetent is not the sole possession of PM News.

7.  If you have particularly large balls or ovaries, unnecessary total ankle joints, external fixators, IM nails, ankle arthroscopy, is where you wish to be.      You will be hailed as a great surgical leader.  You will be worshiped by all the lesser light students and future residents      (most of whom apparently will be speaking English as a second language).  ACFAS leadership is in your future.

8.  You must believe that you are an equal in education to an M.D. or D.O.  You must believe that some day, in some way, you will reach the promised land of parity.     You must believe this.   You must believe that one of the great injustices of our time is the failure to accord your D.P.M. degree after graduating from     Upper Connecticut State College with a 2.71 GPA  vs. an M.D. degree after graduating from Stanford with a 3.9 GPA.      A community hospital based residency vs. ACGME university based residency.  You must believe.  Parity is just around the corner.
9.   You must believe that the APMA Seal of Approval is proof of efficacy.  Everyone needs a Lapidus.  Topical shit cures onychomycosis.       Lasers cure everything.  Balance braces prevent falls.  Subtalar joint stents prolong life.

10.  You must never question the fact that you are a for-real doctor.  You must never use words like podiatry, podiatrist, podiatric.        Never ever use the D.P.M.  You are a foot and ankle surgeon, even if 90% of your life is treating toenails.

This is reality.  This is podiatry.

“these action steps that an individual practitioner can take: “Please reach out to your local college advisors and schedule either an in-person or Zoom event to promote awareness of our profession. The American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine as well as PPMA have all of the resources available that an individual practitioner would need to prepare and present at the schools, including written scripts, PowerPoint presentations, etc. Individuals are also encouraged to go to their local high schools and promote awareness. Podiatry SELLS things and now it has to SELL ITSELF because PA Schools are the better value for your time money and sanity.

In my opinion Robert, I do not think podiatry sells things. They help people live the best life possible during these very difficult times. That is what life is about, helping people and working together in this short life. I think that to help get people joining podiatry, it is a great idea to talk to high school students and get them excited about helping people. Barry has a great idea and we need to listen to our leaders to get boots on the ground. These are my opinions only.

you are not fooling anyone with your posts….we all know you know Podiatry is a vendor driven CPT code oriented allied healthcare profession that is about to go under with 500 applicants to all the schools. You know in reality private practice for Podiatry is dead.

Podiatry died years ago. It’s on life support and will likely continue bullshitting each other and trying to get the next C stupe dents from East West Christian Judaic “College” in the boonies to sign on up for the ride of a lifetime!

ha! Podiatrist FREIR REICH can’t understand why there are only 55 applicants to the 9 quack colleges! And that 55 is if all “were accepted.” (and you know they all will be) He wonders why “national and state leaders are not getting to the root cause”. Well, when you’re an indoctrinated delusional, narcissistic lifer you DO NOT SEE THE CAUSE (or are willing to accept it) so you don’t address it. Lifer’s DENY THAT THEY’RE NOT JUST LIKE. THEY DENY THAT THEY WENT TO PODIATRY SCHOOL (frequently dropping the term podiatrist and saying MEDICAL SCHOOL). Lifers eschew the fact that… Read more »

Whoaa. MD surgeons generally avoid surgery – The best surgeons celebrate the ones they don’t have to do. There are, plenty of guys who’re incredible whores–and they’re known for that. They get called out, but face it greed and avarice are part and parcel of the grand hamster wheel. In the MD realm sure the fees are greater and so is the reimbursement but there’s no zest to market because people get sick. No, not all MDs are surgeons, some of the guys don’t even want to touch people. Bros I know, immunologists, endocrinologists, psychiatrists, etc., keep their hands off.… Read more »

My opinion is that those that have experience should be able to operate and do surgery. Many podiatrists have lots of experience and learn by reading books to help our patients. They have taught podiatry residents and have the knowledge to perform surgery to help people get better. That’s what life is about, helping people. We need to do whatever we can to help people live their best lives during these very difficult times.

Wrong AGAIN CHASKIN. You can’t get experience by “reading books” just like you CAN’T BE A DERMATOLOGIST by going to a few seminars and “U-TUBING” Dermoscopy and make a web site. YOU JUST DON’T GET IT. YOU JUST DON’T SEE HOW “OFF THE STANDARD” YOU ARE. Who taught you to be SO egotistical that you think you can CHANGE THE RULES to fit YOUR needs? Who taught you that you can fit a round peg in a square hole? Your thinking scares me and should scare your CUSTOMERS. (if they knew you did not qualify for a program and are… Read more »

Daniel, of course reading books on surgery is an imperative. However surgical books are often contextual and without a sound background, through basic sciences, clinical medicine, and years of experience, as in a seven year residency, all ABMS surgeons must have a solid background of the interrelationships of organ systems. In training the PGY-1 will often observe, and do a lot of scut work, and the chief resident will have far greater knowledge of procedures via experience in tissue handling, anatomic anomalies and those out of nowhere surprises. Many pods falsely assume that surgery is unique onto itself as some… Read more »

It is so important that we support each other and help our patients during these very stressful times. I learn so much from reading and training. It’s about helping people during this short life. So many in podiatry can do surgery and are very good surgeons, we can all learn from each other. These are my opinions only.

So right Eddy. One prisoner telling another one how to ‘get out of jail” (that they’re both in) is a no go. Limited licensed pods teaching limited licensed pods about A WORLD OUTSIDE THEIR “CELL” (dpm) is an academic and psychological oxymoron. Pod leaders avoid explaining this heterodoxy because they know the average pod is too dim witted to catch on. The proof of what I postulate is Barry Block’s continued profitability in providing a slanted censored post and the APMA which collects millions of dollars and provides VERY LITTLE over the past half century. Oh, but the Fentoon’s and… Read more »

Undoubtedly an MD career is complex, difficult, stressful, and serious. Those MD’s that last 30 years or so in such a milieu are indeed special folks. Perhaps that’s why strong personalities, a facile mind, true dedication, and a love for, an interest in, the science of medicine separates DOCTORS from podiatrists. Surely there are “3rd std. deviation” MD’s, as in any profession, but for those MD’s that “soldier on” I have the utmost admiration. I am incensed by the “Stolen Valor” the dirty podiatric Lifers claim when they say “we’re just like” and we went to podiatric MEDICAL school. Yes,… Read more »

Ok for you, Jeff. Some don’t acquiesce, relent, submit or give satisfaction to their oppressors (Block, APMA, CPME, QUACK COLLEGES) until they have no breath left in them. Call it tenacity. Call it stupidity. It’s all a matter of how much you’re willing to fight for “what you think” is right.

Yes Sybly, that’s the difference between being a DOCTOR and being a PODIATRIST. One requires extraordinary character and determination. The other requires living in the “lowest orbital” and expending the least amt. of energy. To make an analogy, compare the Eiffel Tower to a scrap yard. Which is at the highest energy level?

100 years of foot technician ship under all kinds of unknow designations (DSC, Pod D dpwtf, et.al.) and the INSECURE PODIATRISTS are still worried about PEDICURISTS TAKING BUSINESS AWAY FROM THEM! When there is SO LITTLE MEDICINE, AND NO SYSTEMIC TREATMENTS ALLOWED, PODIATRIST NEED TO PROTECT THEIR MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME, TOENAILS , corns and calluses. Who are those alleged big fish in a small pond foot carpenters trying to fool? Oh they don’t do toenails. No, not them. ALL podiatrists are guilty of the original podiatric sin of “trying to make a living in a lie” because they were conned, but at least Seth is making restitution by exposing the dirtiness in podiatry that needs to be cleaned up. Admitting to a fault is the first step in curing it. If podiatrists would have taken a psychiatry course like actual MD DOCTORS DO, you would have known this.

You know you’re not “just like ” a medical doctor when you enter the nursing home and have to use the beauty salon to cut nails. You know you’re not “just like ” a medical doctor when your patient steps on a nail and you have to refer out for a tetanus shot. You know you’re not “just like ” a medical doctor when you are reluctant to get a $45.00 copay from your patient because you think it is too much. And of course, you know you’re not “just like ” a medical doctor when the PA has to… Read more »

We’ll, can’t add anything to ALL THAT TRUTH except that the personalities in control of podiatry ACTUALLY DO BELIEVE WHAT YOU SAID SETH. You’ve “save lives”. You’ve stopped at least one naïve college student from thinking podiatry was actually medicine and “just like”. The few that do go to pod school either know they’re getting into a medical BUSINESS or are going to be very disappointed, lead a life of lies, and spend that lifetime with low life leaders.

Was scrolling through old posts from the stupe-dent site, twenty years later. Same questions and same nonsense. Some of the hilarity was worth reading…Curious what happened to the young lifers twenty years on–Troll alert, ban censor, troll ban censor…Twenty years into some weirdness – They years went fast, and NONE of the Project this or that materialized despite the full frontal attack on the foundations of faulty fatal phantom theories that some day dogs would talk. There were still folks who are “true believers,” but mostly it’s about money money money. Coding and an occasional “parity” popped up, but things… Read more »

I think we can mentor young podiatrists to help people because that is what podiatry is all about. It is important that we all learn from others. Life is short, we need to have opinion and laugh when appropriate. We need to help each other and learn to treat our patients the best way possible. I think we can all learn from TV shows that help promote podiatry. I am happy to support the APMA and feel that they provide much value and assistance. These are my opinions only.

I agree with you “Surgical” but really, “Surgical”? A little pompous (?) seeing nearly all pods do “surgery” (99%ELECTIVE!) and I don’t know any that have only a surgical practice! I guess it sounds good if you need to make yourself seem more than a podiatrist. I thought we were supposed to be SO PROUD that we’re “the” PODIATRIC foot specialist. If podiatry is not good enough, CHANGE THE EFFEN TRADE TO BE FULLY LICENSED.

Laughing stock you say ? Ask the reps what they actually think and say when podiatrists aren’t around. They have no respect for podiatrists whatsoever. None. They regard DPMs as true inferiors to others. They truly do. But business is business. A sale is a sale. Money is money. They kiss your wrinkled ass and make you feel as if you are important and respected. Because you are of inferior intellect, you believe you are. This also applies to you big shot surgeons. Too bad you cannot hear the conversations from the reps with orthopods when they are with them.… Read more »

I would tell colleagues to read the Journal of Dematoscopy. We can do so much to help our patients because that’s what life is about, helping our patients and brothers. Corns and callouses are important medical concerns that need an expert podiatry visit. These are just opinions only.

DAN, You can’t help your customers by PRETENDING TO BE A DERMATOLOGIST. I say Pretending because you are not a Dermatologist and you are NOT AN M.D. and you are not an authority to have a “so called Journal”. You are a pretender, a fraud. Your insecurity has been evidenced for years. BTW, C&C are NOT IMPORTANT MEDICAL CONCERNS! More corns and calluses are treated by high school grad level oriental nail salon girls than all the pods in the US.
