Are we in the Second Golden Age of Podiatry?

Yes I don’t think it will last but a couple more years, when Medicare and Insurance companies may have to buckle down and cut payments. Additionally, PAs and NPs in a couple years may start to make real in roads into Podiatry services but take a step back in this moment in time

Sure this isn’t like the 80s where you got reimbursed 1000 dollars for a bunion but right now Podiatrist have actually carved out the foot and ankle in most states. While Podiatrists are not on par with MDs and never will be right now might be the closest they ever come. SuperGroups have lead to more power for Podiatrists tons of Orthopaedic groups now have Podiatrists as members. Enough of the community sees Podiatry as equals that it would have been incalculable 20 years ago. Will it last who knows as I talked about worrisome trends for Podiatrists. But really right now the job market is strong and Podiatrists are almost equals. So yes you would make an argument right now post COVID this is the best its been for Podiatrists in a long time. Will it last? Probably not but Podiatrists should enjoy it while it lasts.

Well, I agree IF you are talking EMPLOYMENT opportunities but NOT EQUALITY OF MEMBERSHIP. I don’t think any states allow podiatrists to be CO-OWNERS IN M.D. CORPS. They are EMPLOYEES like P.T.’s, nurses, or P.A.S. Don’t let that SELF GRANTED TITLE OF “DR”. IMPLY EQUALITY. ALSO, try to get on an ortho group if you’re not CERTIFIED IN SOME SURGERY CLASS. THE MEDICAL “BOARD” IS NEAR USELESS. Perhaps you can get a job in a foot clinic with toenails and ulcer dressings but that’s about it. With half taking the board and FLUNKING IT, I’d say the future is tricky… Read more »

That is your opinion. Now for mine. DPMs are now just employees of ortho groups. Private practice has died. Super groups will be cutting salaries as reimbursement drops. PAs are already doing Orthopedic residencies, NPs are opening wound clinics. Applications to POD school all time low. The trend is bad and based on real life situations. DPMs are not even close to being on par with MD/DO when you have to get the PAs ok to cut nails.
