It’s amazing to me that a surgery that was discredited 20 years ago is still performed by Podiatrists everywhere. The fact is the removal or excision of a Mortons Neuroma is done by Podiatrists that need money and/or don’t understand basic principles of physiology. The fact is when you remove a nerve bad things happen. Stump Neuromas are a thing. But really half the podiatrists removing Neuromas are just removing adipose tissue.
The thing is there is a simple decompression operation that is more effective without the side effects. Seriously, the Podiatrist profession is making so much progress but goes backwards with these Podiatrists that insist on removing nerves every day and twice on Tuesdays.

Sounds like a Mister Chartskin. 1. Podiatrists require special permitting and fees to do some ankle work -likely on lower middle class and poor people. Because if one has a working frontal lobes, if ankle surgery/work is required, one would very likely seek an MD orthopod not a dpwtf with a “special” permit-like a fishing “license” or hair cutter “certificate”. As an old guy I do find this interesting. Neuroma removal certainly was the common standard of care in my day. Sure everyone cut the I.M. ligament before pushing up to bring the neuroma dorsally. Back then I knew few pods who ONLY cut the lig and let it go to see how the patient made out. We always thought the complete treatment included the removal. Aside from the transient numbness I found most people satisfied. Stumps were not unheard of but in my experience not common. I’m just musing at the change.
