In an exclusive interview with The Podiatry Post, Michael “ Ace Ventura Nimrod” Nirenberg, foot detective, shared his most difficult and challenging cases.
“The great poochie murder-robbery comes to mind. Horrible murder of a husband and wife in their home. The FBI had a suspect but needed a shoe sleuth to prove his guilt.
I was called. The killer stepped in dog shit in the home which I found on the left shoe, matching the left foot shit stains on the carpet.”
“Although many people know that Sherlock Holmes associate was a doctor, few realized he was John Watson DSC, the chiropodist.
Similar to one of his adventures, as a foot investigator I used my knowledge to help acquit OJ Simpson. Johnnie Cochran called me about the glove thing.
What was never publicized was my if the orthotic don’t fit you must acquit theory. A right foot Selzner orthotic was found next to Nichole’s head. I was asked to investigate.
The pre-made orthotic was size 11. The problem ? OJ’s foot was a 12. Thank goodness I had my Brannock device that day.
Unfortunately due to my limited degree, I couldn’t testify about the glove thing. They were actually my gloves I dropped at the crime scene. I always wondered if I should have said something.”
“As a forensic podiatrist, gait analysis is critical. We had a security video as evidence in a one million dollar robbery at a SAKS FIFTH AVENUE in New York.
It occurred during a protest. The FBI called me to analyze the security tape of a women carrying jewelry from the store. They told me that they read about me in PM magazine.
They said they spoke to a highly respected local authority, Barry Blockhead, JD who endorsed my credentials. By the way, in my work FBI, isn’t who you think it is.
It stands for Foot Bullshit Investigators. But I digress. I examined the alleged suspect. All my knowledge of biomechanics were needed.
Kinesiology, physiology, I needed it all. I’d estimate 60 hours of Colombo like work was required. The robbery suspect on the tape had undergone a right leg amputation and was wearing a prosthesis. The suspect in custody had his left leg amputated and was wearing a left prosthesis. My forensic gait analysis saved this poor guy from an unjustified conviction.”

I analyze foot anatomy for 2 vs. 3 degrees of forefoot valgus. I’ll bet you didn’t know that uncompensated equinus occurs in 100% of dead people after rigor mortis . I bet you didn’t know that. I bet that you never realized that in order to keep your knee on the throat of a drug addict, you must have adequate 1st MPJ dorsiflexion. Was Chauvin ever examined for hallux limitus ?
