It appears that we are looking at another podiatry school opening, this time in Texas.
It’s up to CPME to say NO !!
There is already a paucity of applicants to podiatry schools. Another school will dilute and cannibalize an already sparse and declining applicant pool.
The result will be a lowering of requirements for admission. There is no doubt about this. PA, NP, DO, foreign MD degrees have already impacted podiatry school applications.
The average pharmacist or physical therapist has an average income not that much less than the average podiatrist.
The last time Dr. Harkless selfishly started a new podiatry school, a “residency crisis” followed. Coincidence ? Perhaps.
It is possible we would now witness an “applicant crisis”. How low of an MCAT or GPA will the colleges accept for admission ?
Where will we find additional QUALITY residencies ?
There is no justification for opening yet another podiatry school.

I agree that it is a horrible idea to open a new podiatric medical school unless every graduate that passes all thier courses is guaranteed a residency position or gets a full refund.

Taking a P. Podo training programs—self-proclaimed residencies—SHOULD incorporate an aesthetology program (a few weeks) so these kids could cut fingernails, hair stuff, skin exfoliation rather the the ra ra ra of surgery. Maybe latching on to some chiropractic schools to expand scope. But, as most of us know, the podo leadership has its eyes on being jr. orthos—never gonna happen. Using the word residency in Podiatry is wrong..they are hospital preceptorships. A program must be accepted by ACGME to be a legit residency in a teaching hospital. Plus, three years? how idiotic. Makes no sense for a limited license.
