So Medicare is going to be in some dire financial straits shortly, due to a myriad of factors. Now the concern among Podiatrists is that Podiatrists might actually get cut out of Medicare to help keep the program solvent. But the fact is cutting Podiatrists out of Medicare would do very little about the solvency of the program. For example:

There are currently 18,000 Podiatrists in the country abouts.

The Average Podiatrist collects between 150k-200k from Medicare (obviously this average varies wildly among Podiatrists)

So if one multiplies that together and good guess to how much Podiatrists collect from Medicare in total is about 2.7 billion. Now you are probably seeing that number geez Podiatrist collect 2.7 billion from Medicare. We are screwed if they starting cutting. Well guess what, that is not even 1% of total Medicare budget. The Medicare budget as of the last year was 644 billion. So Podiatrists are not even 0.5% of Medicare’s total budget. So basically Podiatrists are not leading Medicare into insolvency, Podiatrists are basically not relevant to Medicare’s budget. So rest easy my friends.
