Five Questions about Podiatry and the Coronavirus Outbreak

Five Questions about Podiatry and the Coronavirus Outbreak

The Coronavirus outbreak is going to have long lasting implications for Podiatrists and the Podiatry industry as a whole. I attempted to answer the most pressing questions about the Coronavirus outbreak and Podiatry here.

Will your Podiatry Office have to close in a regional quarantine?

Yes, despite what the APMA has told people, Podiatry is NOT an essential healthcare service providing life sustaining care. Anyways half of Podiatrist patients are the frail and elderly. They will be the ones on quarantine anyways. About the only thing that will stay open that Podiatrists work at are wound centers. Forget about elective surgery too, for a couple of months if you are hit with a regional quarantine.

What of Nursing Home Podiatrists?

If you are a Nursing Home Podiatrist I hope you have money saved. Nursing Homes are going to have to be extremely vigilant on who they let in to interact with their patients. You could be looking at a two to three month period where Podiatrists are not allowed in to see Nursing Home patients of any kind. The risk will outstrip any reward, and YES what you are doing is not an essential healthcare service.

Will there be any Podiatry conferences over the next three months?

The answer to this is obviously no. But for some reason there were ads for a Podiatry conference in April in the PM email as well as for one in Seattle in June. Even the most optimistic person for this has to realize they are not happening. I hope you have your CMEs now. Prayers to all the Podiatrists that supplement their failing practices with lecture income.

How bad could this get for Podiatry practices?

The answer is I hope you saved money so your practice can sustain a 4-6 month lull in patients and income. I think this will hurt practices in large metropolitan areas worse than rural ones. But you should be counting your savings right now. The entire Podiatry economy is about to freeze for three to four months.

Is there anything you can do to help your Podiatry Practice?

Well I would have Hand Sanitizers clearly visible to patients now. Every single cleaning or precaution you should have posted in your waiting room. You should have big signs explaining your procedures, and by all means make sure patients see this. Treat your elderly patients with facemarks, starting yesterday. Not today, yesterday. There are precautions you can take.

I feel assured about how podiatry clinics are putting effort in having hand sanitizers to be very accessible to people visiting their office. I’m planning to visit one very soon because I was going to back then but the lockdown happened. After about two months of staying home, the pain on my foot has come back and it was way worse then before so I think I shouldn’t ignore this anymore.

The corona virus scare is so bad that the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons cancelled its seminar. Nobody noticed. The corona virus scare is so bad that Dr. Louis DeCaro stopped making shitty children’s orthotics and is now selling shitty hand sanitizers. The corona virus scare is so bad that podiatrists in the exhibit halls are afraid to grab free pens and cookies The corona virus scare is so bad. Hermine told Barry not to touch her. That was 30 yeas ago. The corona virus scare is so bad that the executive director was told to stop shaking hands. He… Read more »

The annual meeting of the HOD is a freaken joke with the BOT and Christina at the helm.
Jim Christina will not get any “private time” in hotel room with Jeff Lahreman this year.
Dr. Lahreman was very disappointed with Dr. Edwards announcement.

Dear Schlock Hater, So AFAABB lectures on What to do if you’re caught up in a Medicare Audit? That’s the thinking of a New York City dropped out podiatrist. Why would that be the first thing he thinks about podiatry? Maybe because he associates with Practice Management types who teach how to get maximum money from Medicare. It seems ANYTHING FOR A BUCK BARRY BLOCK is all too familiar with audits for fraud. Funny how that’s what he thinks of podiatrists. Not medicine, Not science, Not honest non banned and censored opinions just how not to get in trouble if… Read more »

“Presents” already posted a statement they were going to keep their foot lecture business going and submitted a list of rules to not spread the Corona virus. No handshaking No schmoozing, No back slapping and No ribbons, banners or badges placed around the neck. They’re putting signs in the rest rooms telling PODIATRISTS to WASH THEIR HANDS. I wonder if MD’s have to be reminded to wash their hand? I wonder how Present’s employees will handle CASH MONEY, and will their vendors wipe down their products before the next wtf touches it? What about the Danish Tray? How do you… Read more »

Wait, wait, wait! Start thinking like a PODIATRIST. You can SELL your hand sanitizer with a big mark up like you do with those $45 arch supports that you sell for hundreds. You can sell rubber gloves individually or as a pair. Sell your masks too. You’ll make as much or more MONEY than nail grinding. SELL aliquots of alcohol in 1-2oz portions. Sell your Band-Aids and topical non rx antibiotics. Sell your betadine in aliquots too. You can probably “talk” your customers into why they need TO BUY your sx shoe covers. Those of you who SELL OTC medications,… Read more »

Fabulous additions to Presents !!
A fake crooked “pediatric” podiatrist and a fake crooked “Charcot joint expert”. They do fit in with the rest. They should rename the seminar “ the island of misfit foot people “.
Does anything for a buck Barry speak there ? If not he should be. Hucksters all.

Barry speaks at every meeting. The topic …………………. “What to do if you get caught up in a Medicare audit.”
I say, “how would Barry know, he never practiced podiatry or law.”
