Is Medicare Part B about to start denying more Podiatric services?

Is Medicare Part B about to start denying more Podiatric services?

The link here seems to indicate all of Podiatry in regards to Medicare is right now under review

https://oig.hhs.gov/reports-and-publications/workplan/summary/wp-summary-0000344.asp

I am sure the APMA will save Podiatry

Father’s day musing: My father always said “where there’s a will there’s a way”. Podiatry “Leaders” DO NOT HAVE THE WILL (for you to become DOCTOR’S)…..so, there’s NO WAY you’ll ever be more than a PRETENDER…..A NON M.D….. A POSSEUR…. A PODIATRIST!

Being called a podiatrist is akin to being called the n word to a black person. That’s reality. NO ONE wants to be associated or affiliated with the P stench. IT’s a scarlet letter, a bad brand, it’s the AMC pacer, it’s the jalopy, it’s the namby pamby, the druggie son, the drunk uncle, the abusive wife, the Cluster B daughter, whatever. The unspoken. The eye roll. That look. You know.

No one wants to be called a podiatrist. It’s surgeon, foot/ankle specialist, etc because that P stench wreaks like an unflushed toilet status post bad Mexican.

Handiatry? Why doesn’t handology have its own schooling, training etc.? Maybe a fake degree like DHM-doctor of hand medicine

Sorry to bring reality into podiatry but….podiatry is the optometry of the foot. Optometrists aren’t ophthalmologists and podiatrists aren’t doctors either. They’re not orthopedic surgeons. They’re not dermatologists, They’re not neurologists and they’re not Primary providers. They’re NOT even DENTISTS because dentists are the ONLY TERMINAL SPECIALISTS OF THE TEETH. NO COMPETITION NO SUPERIORS. Isn’t it obvious? Podiatry was an extremely clever, subtle NY city business idea, stranded like hybrid DNA, of shoe sellers and quasi medicine. Even after a century plus (1903 NY’s first foot franchise) podiatry isn’t even as broad as a P.A.. Surgery is a mechanical, repetitive,… Read more »

Robert, right on. lots of folks think dentists of the foot….however many many folks can work on the foot. how many pas/nps/fps/ims/rns are working on teeth? Dentists OWN the teeth/mouth and have REAL dental specialities to address gums, surgery, etc….
Podiatry is a carnival filled with fuck ups who are run by conmen to line their shyster pockets. Good points about how the fake field was created in New York Shitty with flim flam men and grifters all looking to get a buck

Dr. Dim,
Unfortunately podiatry was never able to learn ANYTHING from the dentistry model.
Can you imagine a dentistry board like American Board of Multiple Specialties in Dentistry ?
Maybe Earl Horwitz can start this board. And one of the specialties would be Geriatric Dentistry.

As I’ve said many times before on the ‘ol site, 2020 is gonna be the year. The year when the podiatry plug is pulled from the drain. Bye bye. Why? Well, MIPS data has been collected by CMS since 2018 (and probably a little before that). So poddies that are dutifully submitting their numbers to avoid the dreaded 5% cut will be compared to all the other like-coding data from the real doctors’ extenders (CNP and PA). Guess what? Podiatry isn’t cost effective. Who wouldda thunk it? In the age of anit-unbundling what the hell would you call 11719, 11720-1,… Read more »

Yep. Along with all the pts I’ve seen throughout the years that were surprised when I told them foot care wouldn’t be covered. “But my other doctor sent it in, why can’t you?” Well, it may “seem” like you have circulation problems, but I’m not seeing it listed in the PCP cht’s problem list. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the gold standard. And I don’t fly solo. Just because you’re the hammer, it doesn’t necessarily mean that every pt is a nail. Oh, I forgot to mention…don’t know about all of you but in my area the Blues and… Read more »

Reality disguises itself as a chimera of false hope, dreams, and expectations. At some point the illusory ability to hold two opposing thoughts simultaneously remains the pinnacle of P politics awakened when the dough stops to flow.

Can anyone say podiatry with a straight face?
Besides creating needs and anxiety for pretend ailments, was podiatry simply a salesman in a white coat/scrubs?
