Recently news came out that Medicare would be broke by 2026, most Podiatrists didnt notice that because they are worried they will no longer be able to the exploit E and M charge by charging the same for a first time nail patient as a cancer doctor does for initiating cancer care, and of course the APMA took their side. And now the APMA is up and arms over that, not looking at the real battle that is coming and it is coming soon.
Major changes are coming to Medicare in the near future, the current formula is unsustainable, Podiatrists like to believe they are intregal to seniors health (they aren’t). Everything a Podiatrist does for a senior can be replaced by someone else and done cheaper and just as effectively. Nursing Home Podiatrists you don’t think a bureaucrat in Washington is going to say to the Nursing homes just have the Nurses trim the toenails…..You think Medicare is going to keep paying 2k for pretend skin grafts……..you think you will be able to debride 20 wounds………charge for callouses……..its all coming to end and nobody right now sees it coming. If the economy comes down you will see states start to dump Podiatry from Medicaid. This E and M Code fight is the bright shiny object the only idiots would fight over (I mean it will hurt Codinglines’ bottom line but other than that). This is completely meaningless to 70% of the Podiatrist who do not try to exploit stupid loopholes. So APMA spend thousands of dollars fighting a meaningless fight that you will lose, the fight for survival is coming and nobody in the APMA sees it coming.
