So, Medicare is changing the reimbursement formula for Podiatrists the first of what maybe many changes that reduce Podiatrist reimbursement. As usual its the Podiatrist in primary practice that are most worried, while a lot of the Podiatrists with “safe” jobs in orthopedic groups and medical groups sit on the sidelines and giggle. They think they are safe but they are probably the Pods in the most danger. They should be very nervous that now a PA doing an E and M under a Foot and Ankle Orthos supervision will get reimbursed more than a Podiatrist. If you think it will take a while for Health Care administrators to figure this out you are nuts. There is a reason there are very few chiropractors in medical groups. It’s not because they don’t see a role for them, it’s because they cannot get reimbursed at the level the medical or ortho group would like. The clock is ticking, but the Podiatrists don’t see a clock in the room…
