If you remember the Simpsons episode where the creators of Itchy and Scratch are worried that their cartoon is stale and not reaching teenagers and the younger demographic. So they introduce the character of Snootchy who is basically a stereotype of teenagers with the slang that is Discover Podiatry. If you think the recruitment crisis is due to bad info on the internet or not enough “positive” stories you are mistaken. If you think the average salary for a Podiatrist is 320,000 dollars a year you are mistaken.
The fact is the recruitment crisis is due to the rise of PAs and NPs their numbers are increasing every year and its not because they have a sleek website to attract recruits. If the APMA were serious it would do a deep dive into why PAs and NPs are exploding while Podiatry is imploding. The fact is there is no easy fix to the recruitment crisis Podiatry is not a glamorous job, its just not.
I have said time and again PAs and NPs are an existential threat to Podiatry but people tend not to listen. All the letters to the PM news and nobody mentioning PAs or NPs come on guys lets see the forest through the trees.

Barry Block has been a major influencer in podiatry’s stagnation, delusion, and decline. Silly shoe pictures, banning legitimate criticism of podiatric education and podiatric politicians, and cozziness with arch support salesmen have kept podiatry a scion of Manhattan Chiropody, not mainstream medicine. Block is from the era of moving foot signs, nearly impossible state restrictions on licensure in that state, and cultists control of the APMA AND QUACK COLLEGES. BARRY BLOCK HAS BEEN, AND STILL IS, BAD FOR PODIATRY BECOMING A MATURE ACCEPTED MAINSTREAM DISCIPLINE. He receives awards from “his own”. Meaningless, except to those who do not know what… Read more »

More of barry laughing at YOU as he cashes his checks.
Has anyone else noticed that the majority of morons promoting podiatry are heavily involved in academia, residency programs, or educational roles? Or private equity capitalistic vultures? It seems like platforms such as lisping Dean’s Chat mainly feature dipshits whose livelihoods are tied to education/residency—essentially promoting job security for themselves including smooth operator Jeff Jenson. Why isn’t anyone addressing the real issue of massive market saturation in the bogus profession? Ortho derm radio etc limit residences-practitioners! You would absolutely have to be nuts to go into podiatry and spend 400k+ in loans and 7-8 years only to be smoked by a… Read more »
“Hogan”, you aptly point out that there is a cult controlling podiatry. A cult of delusional SELF INTERESTED MATERIALISTIC “MEN”. They keep podiatry on a path that keeps THEM IN CHARGE AND IN CASH. Sensible, grounded, realists know that podiatry will NEVER GET INTO THE MAINSTREAM without a major curriculum and basic philosophy change. This could have been done decades ago and it is well documented through surveys that most podiatrists want a degree/ and or license change. Despite the will of the majority the cult like controllers adamantly adhere to WHAT’S BEST FOR THEM. Using terms like malcontent, we’re… Read more »
Robert, Excellent summary. Dr Jacob’s from show me state. He had patient he says to work on his necrotizing fasciitis patient he was given permission to play doctor. Patient was on Eliqius and he was to oversee Andrexxa IV dosing and administration. Still better he claims anesthesiologist would be under his supervision! No out scope practice here…
They’re job dependent on other podiatrist suffering
To admit the NP PA situation is pushing podiatry further toward the foot of the ladder and would be direct evidence of the failure of podiatric education and podiatric politics. As egotists generally populate these positions one couldn’t expect them to admit their failure. Podiatry has failed to make the leap as far back as the mid to late 80’s. Stubborn egotistical brainwashed lifers adhered (and still adhere) to the “biomechanics makes us better” LIE. They chose shoe and support sales over increasing curriculum rigor. While pods bought Mercedes with shoe and toenail profits the PA’s were learning REAL MEDICINE… Read more »
“Discover Bankruptcy”….. you can spend 20 million on marketing and branding but your 25 years too late. This generation wants a quick path to money if they want to be in healthcare and that’s PA or NP, not DPM with a limited license and surgery reimbursement at rock bottom. APMA and its leaders are in a vacuum of egos that think surgery is the answer to recruitment problems. At least 50% of the pm NEWS POLL UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WONT WORK.
Yet they support Barry Block’s racket claiming he’s the “voice of podiatry”! Block may very well be the cleverest con man of all! He SELLS OTHER PEOPLE’S work. They do the work and he gets the $$$. Now that’s an “ol time NYC slickster podiatrist”.
All the money in the world is useless if you have severe Parkinson’s, Robert.
And Barry has this, real good. He is a shaking time bomb.
Then why the f is he still ‘working’? Is it work addiction? Doesn’t have enough money? Another shyster who loves money? What gives?!
It’s the New York City Manhattan chiropody money gene expressing itself. ALL must know how and why podiatry was invented. It went from roaming corn cutters (for money) to organized corn cutters, to CONTROLLED (through licensing) corn cutters, to white coat wearing, we’re just like corn cutters. 3 year watcherships are proven nearly useless because once the CHIROPODIATRIST leaves their apprenticeship nearly all fall to the level of all LIMITED LICENSED CHIROPODIATRIST. And don’t give me that “medical board certification” con that was agreed to in order to prevent the ACFAS from being sued for restraint of trade. Med “boarded”… Read more »
Yeah, but he continues to damage podiatry and podiatrists by printing slanted, prejudicial, MISLEADING posts. You can cut off the head of a snake but if it bites you you’re still dead.
It’s a shyster snake head shaped like a silly shoe pic!
An insider opined that the Shyster makes around 2 mill per year in ad revenues.
Not bad ´work’. If you can get it.
